ONLY PLACE WHERE MUSLIMS CAN CLAM A GREATER SHARE IN PROPORTION TO THEIR POPULATION IS IN PRISON
This is the position attained by Muslims in sixty years of freedom. Allah (SWT) knows best how low we will further sink, if we do not work, collectively, for betterment of the community. Instead of looking to others to solve our problems, will it not be better if we depend on our own resources and strength?
Being owners of more than 600,000 acres of prime wakf properties, Muslims as a community had plenty of resources in India at the time of independence, yet now they belong to the poorest section of the country. The Book value of wakf properties has been estimated to be equal to approximately 6,000 crores of rupees, which at present can generate an income of Rs. 163 crores annually. Unsatisfactory Management and large scale encroachment have made most of these wakf properties value less. If we can commercially exploit these prime properties and manage our Zakat and Sadqa, then community will not need to look elsewhere for resources. The community will also have to decide how the money should be used that is lying unused in the banks because of sharia restrictions, such as rupees 3,.900 crores of interest money in Kerala banks. About 200 crores yearly donation in Dargah of Ajmer Sharif is used by khadims. Can not be utilized for welfare of Muslims.
ACTION PLAN
Faiz-e-Aam Muslim Educational Society was mainly established to promote education and eradicate illiteracy among Muslims in rural areas. While working towards illiteracy, extensive all round poverty was found in rural areas. Since without poverty alleviation the promotion of education is a difficult task, it was decided to work among Muslims living below the poverty line, and to help the weak, the underprivileged and deprived make their lives better. The society is now trying to break the vicious circle of deprivation that leads to more poverty with every new generation.
Our belief is that ‘not every thing that is faced can be changed but nothing can be changed until it is faced’. Therefore we collect Zakat and Sadqa and disburse it through well devised schemes. Believing also that Zakat should not create dependency and take away and individual’s initiative to break the wall of poverty, our effort is to assist through small loans for establishing various small businesses.
