The Deviance of Zakir Naik, the Indian.
(( Drafted by another more knowledgeable Brother ))
Clarification of the Position of TriniMuslims on Dr. Zakir Naik.
الحمد لله رب العالمين و العاقبة للمتقين و لا عدوان إلا على الظالمين و أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله و أشهد أن محمدا عبده و رسوله و بعد
As Salaamu 'Alaikum Wa Rahmatullaah
This is a clarification of the position of www.trinimuslims.com on Dr.Zakir Naik, as to what follows:
Firstly we say, seeking the Help of Allaah, that whoever opposes the texts (of the Qur'aan and the authentic Sunnah) and the consensus of the Companions (may Allaah be pleased with them) in speech or action, then they must be reprimanded in some form or fashion depending on the specific individual and the situation. This is what is required by the Sharee'ah of Allaah Tabaaraka wa Ta'ala.
We previously dispatched an email concerning the condition of Dr.Zakir Naik that wasn't the appropriate method to deal with the issue, so we apologize and ask Allaah's forgiveness for any wrong doing we are guilty of. However, the issue at hand still remains.
In order to clarify our position on this it is necessary to state that none of our statements come from our own intellects or desires. Rather we try to refer to our major scholars, those who are recognized internationally as the scholars in the sharee'ah, in fiqh, in hadeeth and the other sciences of the Religion. This is
because Allaah Tabaaraka wa Ta'ala said:
"So ask the People of Knowledge if you don't know."
Recently, it has come to our attention that the brother, Dr.Zakir Naik despite his brilliant ability to debate the non-Muslims, has made numerous statements which oppose the texts (of the Qur'aan and Sunnah) and the consensus of the Companions. Although we acknowledge his skill in speaking, we must be fair and just with regards to Allaah's Book and the Sunnah of His Messenger, for indeed nothing is more beloved to us than these two things.
So when an individual of this caliber falls into error, it is upon those who know and are able, to correct and clarify these errors so that the Muslims are unable to distinguish between what is correct and what is incorrect, can be safe from taking what is erroneous as part of the Religion when it is indeed not. And this is our only intention in speaking about this affair and Allaah alone knows what the hearts contain.
Concerning his errors, may Allaah rectify him and us, (Aameen) some questions were prepared by some of the students of knowledge and sent to one of the Major scholars of Yemen, Shaykh Yahyaa Al Haajooree (who has memorized the 6 books of hadeeth). He responded to some of them, clarifying the errors contained therein and stating the correct position according to what is found in the texts. One of these questions was translated and is posted on our site.
Also, what should be noted is that some of the students of Dr.Zakir Naik visited the Islaamic Universitiy Of Madeenah in 2005/2006 seeking advice from the various scholars in an attempt to evaluate themselves and Dr.Zakir with regards to their methodology in da'wah and what is connected to that. We contacted one of the students of knowledge in Madeenah who accompanied and spent time with them, Dhulfiqar Ibraheem Al Atharee who advised us that Scholars of India, the likes of major scholar of Hadeeth, Shaykh Wasee'ullah 'Abbaas and Shaykh Aneesur Rahmaan 'Adhamee, have advised against listening to his talks and lectures since they contain oppositions to the Sharee'ah and would harm those who are incapable of distinguishing what is correct from what is not.
This is not the place to list the errors however it is sufficient to state that up until this point, as far as we know, Dr.Zakir has not retracted nor repented from them. If he did, we would have been the first of those to rush to his talks. However, we have to abide by the principles that were laid down in the Sharee'ah.
Some may not agree with our position, but it is a position based upon knowledge and advice from the trustworthy scholars. There is no doubt that he will bring some benefit to the Muslims, especially in debating the non-Muslims. Perhaps, some of the non-Muslims might accept Islaam due to his talks, maashaAllaah. But what is going to happen after, when they are nurtured upon the incorrect beliefs and erroneous positions that occur from him? May Allaah guide him to correcting these errors and may He guide us to correcting ours.
So we must be fair in speaking about the individual, we do not ascribe anything to him unjustly nor do we lie upon him, for indeed that is prohibited in the Sharee'ah. We only seek to make the truth known amongst the people and we fear for ourselves and the people from turning away from that truth that Allaah sent down in His Book and upon the tongue of His Messenger.
Finally, we say that we cannot adopt the methodology of 'I may not agree with everything he says, but...' because this methodology is not founded upon any authentic principle in the Religion. Rather it nullifies the command from Allaah to enjoin the good and prohibit evil which comes in many verses of the Qur'aan and in many authentic sayings of the Prophet
It is related authentically in the authentic collection of Imaam Al Bukhaaree that the Companions gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet saying: "And we will stand up for the truth wherever we are, and we will not fear in the Way of Allaah, the blame of the blamers."
هذ و الله أعلم و صلى الله و سلم على محمد و على آله و صحبه و من سلك سبيلهم إلى يوم الدين
This and Allaah knows best. May the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his Family, his Companions and those who follow in their footsteps until the Day of Resurrection.
